THANKSGIVING FEAST!

On Tuesday, November 24 all first graders celebrated Thanksgiving with a feast of sub sandwiches, chips, and pumpkin pudding for dessert.  Some of the students wore a Pilgrim boy or girl hat and some of the students wore a Native American headband with feathers!  The students made their own cup of pumpkin pudding and also made their own sub sandwich.  Each student was asked to bring a contribution toward this feast.  Thank you parents for providing your child's item!  It was a highly successful event!

TOUR OF THE POST OFFICE

  On Thursday, November 19 all first grade classes took a tour of the Eureka Post Office!  Barb Stout explained how the post office operates and answered many questions from the students.
   While there, students mailed their individually colored gingerbread men to begin their journeys across the state of Kansas.  Each year during December, first grade classrooms participate in a gingerbread man study.  They read many versions of the gingerbread man.
  Mrs. Carpenter, Marshall Elementary Librarian finds volunteers from Kansas school and public libraries that are willing to host the first graders' gingerbread men.  The gingerbread men are mailed to these host libraries and then they journal the gingerbread men's escapades and return them to Marshall first graders before Christmas break.  As the gingerbread men return to Eureka their host cities are tagged on the Kansas map in the library.

WE ARE NOW AT 60 DAYS OF SCHOOL!

Wednesday, November 11 was our 60th day of school!  Zero came and brought us Smarties!  We also celebrated Veteran's Day by honoring the Veteran's in our community with an assembly.  Alex is showing his mother's and father's dog tags that he brought to school.

Halloween!

Here we are all dressed and ready to parade and then party!  It was a beautiful afternoon for a parade. We had a wonderful party with treats provided for us by Mrs. Waldren, Mrs. Nelson, Mrs. Simpson, and Mrs. Davis.

50 Days of School!

Tuesday, October 27 was our 50th day of school.  Zero brought us pretzel sticks to count!

40 DAYS OF SCHOOL!!

Tuesday, October 13 was our 40th day of school!!  Zero brought us marshmallows to count and eat.  Thank you Zero!

FIRE SAFETY PROGRAM

Friday, October 9 members of the Eureka City and County volunteer Fire Department came to Marshall Elementary to give the First and Second grades a Fire Safety program.  The students were given a presentation.  One of the highlights of the presentation was seeing a real firefighter in his gear and learning that they need to yell as loud as they can if they are in a fire as the firefighters can't hear that well in their gear. They were placed in a simulation trailer which demonstrated a smoke filled room  and what a firefighter sounds like with their gear and air tanks on so that if they were in a real fire they would not be afraid of the firefighter. Students were shown all the fire trucks and allowed to "drive" the fire truck!  The firefighter gave each student a treat bag and firefighter hat!  Thanks so much Eureka City and County Firefighters!!!
