Exploring pumpkins!

We just completed a unit on the pumpkin life cycle.  We watched a couple pumpkin videos, completed a pumpkin life cycle flip book, measured how tall, how big around, and how much our big classroom pumpkin weighed and we found out that a pumpkin can float!

Cowtown's County Fair Education Day

On Friday, October 7 First Grade went to Old Cowtown Museum's County Fair Education Day.  Students came to learn, experience, and participate life in the 1870's.  There were over 100 volunteers who demonstrated skills and crafts from that era.  Some of the activities we participated in were: watching a working blacksmith, operating a printing press, making bread, lifting a hay bale and grinding corn!  It was another wonderful event this week!!

Main Street Decorating

On Wednesday, October 5 First graders and their parents helped decorate Main Street in front of the Library!!  We had a great time decorating, eating a treat provided by parents, and visiting with each other.  It really was a wonderful evening!

30 Days of School!

On Thursday, September 29 we celebrated the 30th day of school.  We made 30 tally marks, drew 30 objects, wrote numbers to 30 and created a 30th day of school pig for our 100 days of school booklet.

GERMS AND HYGIENE!

The week of September 19 we studied germs and hygiene.  To help  students understand about germs we read several books, completed a couple worksheets, put glitter on our hands to see how easy germs are spread,  and learned the saying, "Germs are in the air, germs are in the ground, Germs, Germs, are everywhere!!  We finished up our week by creating Germ Monsters!!
