MAY STEM ACTIVITY

Our Late Start STEM activity for May was to see which partners could make the longest paper chain. Partners were given 2 pieces of construction paper, 15 inches of masking tape, one ruler and one pair of scissors.  I found it interesting that every partnership created a different looking paper chain.  No two were alike!!

HATCHING CHICKS!!

We had an incubator in our classroom full of eggs!  On Tuesday, April 25 the eggs began to hatch!  By Thursday we had a total of 6 chicks that hatched.  Students were able to watch them peck their way out of the eggs, one finger touch them and listen to them cheep throughout the day! They were really fun to watch!  Thank you to Michelle Johnson for allowing us to use her incubator, eggs, and warming bucket.  It was a great learning experience for us!

Volunteers demonstrated for the students the different parts of an insect.  We then explored the Children's section.  There was a musical maze, a giant hollow tree man, the Hungry Caterpillar and ladybugs, and and ant spot.  After we thoroughly explored the Children's section we went on a scavenger hunt to find assorted items in the gardens. We were given fish food to feed the Koi too!  What a great time we had there!!
